Open Meeting Mon Aug 29th 8pm Raheen Woods HotelAgendaRatesA nationwide petition is being organised with the aim of securing reductions in commercial rates. Please see below details of the petition which is being organised by an organisation called Employers for Affordable Rates. All businesses are asked to sign the petition. It can be done online, by logging onto their website, www.iear.ie. Minister for the Environment, Phil Hogan, has already given a commitment that he is in favour of rates reductions for small businesses. Any additional persuasion that comes from businesses nationwide can only help. Buy Local CampaignA buy local campaign was recently launched by the Chamber. The meeting will discuss ways that every business can promote and support that campaign. Town ParkingThe last open meeting resolved that strong representations must be made to Galway County Council with regard to the parking situation in the town. A petition is being prepared, which businesses present at the meeting will be asked to sign.IT IS VERY IMPORTANT THEREFORE, THAT YOUR BUSINESS IS REPRESENTED AT THIS MEETING. Town DigIt was suggested that Captains be appointed from each Street, affected by the upcoming Town Dig. It will be the Street Captain's job to coordinate with Coffey Construction, with regard to deliveries, parking, etc. It would be much harder to coordinate and secure good cooperation from Coffey's if all of the businesses were making individual representations. We hope that Captains may be appointed at the meeting in respect of all affected streets. Athenry Gift VouchersMembers will be given an update regarding the Athenry Gift Vouchers, which will be launched during the next 4-5 weeks. Businesses need to consider whether they would like to offer discounts to customers who are redeeming Athenry Vouchers, in order to incentivise sales of the vouchers, and to assist our promotion of them.
